The Last Really Busy Week Before Christmas

This Upcoming Weekend

This coming Sunday I will once again have the opportunity to preach.  Last year during the Advent season the Elders at Církev bratrská asked me to lead the youth in running a special Sunday worship service.  Last year, we had a very different combination of skits and mini sermons to express three different aspects of what Christmas means.  It seemed to be something that people really enjoyed because the Elders asked us to handle one of the Advent Sundays again this year.  So, this coming Sunday afternoon we will be leading the worship service once again.  Again this will be something pretty different, the youth and I will sing "Thou Who Wast Rich beyond All Splendor" and then I will preach a sermon based on the passage from which the hymn was inspired.  I might also be mixing something else in there as well so it could make for some tricky sermon preparation.  Please pray for me this week as I am praying, studying and writing to prepare for the sermon.  Pray also for the youth that will take part in helping with the service for some of them this will be the first service that they have ever helped with.

After this week, my schedule should be back to a normal level of craziness until after the holidays.  We will have our regular youth meetings for the next two weeks and then on the 16th and 17th we will have our Christmas Party and movie marathon.  This year we will do all the Star Wars movies per the request of several of the youth.  Most of them have never seen ANY of the Star Wars movies! Can you believe that?!  The schedule will be pretty tight because the church will be hosting a dinner Saturday evening so we will have to either just watch movies all through the night or sneak in a few hours of sleep before getting back to them.  Within hours of finishing up with the marathon I will be jumping on a train and heading to the airport to spend two weeks with my family over the holiday.  I'm really looking forward to it since it has been almost three years since I have spent Christmas with my family.  Please continue to pray for energy as I run pretty hard over the next week or so to get the bigger things that I need to prepare finished.

Thanksgiving

Last Thursday was Thanksgiving and I hope that all of you enjoyed the time with your families.  For the second year in a row I hosted a Thanksgiving meal at the church.  I had a little help from a couple of members of the church to help me cook the turkeys because I needed to cook three turkeys and the ovens here in the Czech Republic are pretty small, like half the size of most ovens in the states.  Again this year there was a nice turnout of people from the church, the youth group, and the two conversation groups.  As usually, people really enjoyed the macaroni and cheese as well as the gravy that I made because they just don't make those types of things here.  People spent the evening eating and talking with each other.  Some people even got the chance to talk with my mom via Skype.  Below are some pictures that were taken by Mariana, one of the people from the church and a professional photographer here.
