Gathering Together in Freedom

Final School Visit of the Year

About two weeks ago, I went on what will probably be the last school visit of the year.  These school visits are an interesting and a wonderful opportunity.  It has given me the ability to begin to build relationship with students that I might not otherwise get to know.  Usually when I visit a school I am there to speak about a particular topic but often at the end, the students get the opportunity to ask me some questions.  Sometimes the questions are about the topic but often they are questions about myself and why I am here in the Czech Republic.  This gives me the opportunity to speak about my faith a bit and express how the love of God drew me to come here to serve.  This year I have had many more opportunities to visit schools and on a more consistent basis, which allows the students to become more familiar with me as well as more comfortable.  Pray that these relationships would continue to grow and that they might be drawn to truly consider their lives and desire to ask some real questions about the One who called me here.

Youth Revolution and Game Night

Usually our evenings at Youth Revolution include some time to get to know one another a little better, some worship, a few small games, some food, and some time in the Word.  A few weeks ago I spoke about a topic that I'm sure is fun for kids, teenagers, and adults alike, the topic of honoring your father and mother.  We spoke about the love behind the commandment, the promise of blessing, and how honoring our parents helps us to learn how to honor other authorities in our lives and most importantly, the ultimate authority, God.  Klára and Terka helped me with a skit to help illustrate the idea.  The following week, we had an evening devoted to building relationships and having some fun, we had a game night.  We had a couple of people join us that we don't often see.  Zuzka, Julian, and Eva joined us for the evening as we played Bang, Killer Uno, and a couple of Czech games that I sadly couldn't participate in because they were in Czech.  Zuzka, Julian, Eva, and Eliška got the chance to compare their different experiences of taking the maturita exams as they had all completed their high school careers within the previous weeks.

Svoboda Setkání

This past Friday and Saturday a couple of the youth from our group along the Petr and I joined youth and leaders from several other Církev bratrská youth groups in the region for a meeting with the theme of freedom (svoboda).  As many of you know, I was asked by the organizers of the event to be one of the speakers.  I was amazed, yet unsurprised by the way in which God orchestrated our talks because even though none of us who spoke during the weekend discussed what we would talk about, each talk build on one another very well.  I have seen God do this time after, when the theme during worship leads perfectly into the topic that's spoken about during the sermon.  It's a great example of how we are, as believers, of one spirit as we all have the Holy Spirit living in and working through us.  During the time together we enjoyed some wonderful worship together as well as great fellowship with old and new friends.  Barča and Kuba, got to meet some new people and both really were happy that they attended.  There were also times for discussing the topic of freedom from several different aspects.  Each person was able to choose from a list of topics and discuss how our freedom in Christ relates to how we should think about several different things from free time, to anarchy, to evangelism.  It was a wonderful experience and I am so thankful for all who prayed for the meeting and for my preparation beforehand.  As of now, many of the people from our group are either uncomfortable or uninterested in joining in these meetings, at least when we are not the group hosting it.  Pray that more and more teens from our group would be interested in attending these events in the future so that the unbelievers might get to meet even more people their age who are believers and see how they view the world and that the believers would continue to attend and be both challenged and encouraged by these gatherings.
